What is the BV score?

BV — backlink value — is what a link is worth in dollars, as bklink values it in every audit. The BV score on this page is the value of one new, followed link from a site: what that site's links are typically worth before anything about your own site is known. It is an estimate of the ranking benefit a link carries, not a price anyone quotes — publications charge what they like, and BV exists to show whether that is worth paying.

How it is calculated

BV 2.0 multiplies four things about the linking site:

Link-equity scale, from the site's Ahrefs Domain Rating: DR 70+ $342, DR 50–69 $200, DR 30–49 $179, DR 10–29 $100, DR 0–9 $25. A site Ahrefs does not rate is worth $0.
Traffic factor, from the site's estimated monthly organic visits: 100,000+ ×2, 10,000+ ×1.3, 1,000+ ×1, under 1,000 ×0.6. No estimate counts as ×1.
Link type, A to D: A ×1, B ×0.5, C ×0.1, D ×0.05. Where bklink has audited links on the site, the type is read from them by Jev, a model that gives the probability of each level for each link; a nofollow link is at most C. Otherwise fixed rules place the site: a server shared with more than 20 other audited sites is D, a press-release wire C, anything else B. Rules never give A.
Relevance to the site the link points to, ×0.5 to ×1.25. It needs your site, so it is held at ×1 here.

In a full audit two more factors apply to each link: a second link from the same site keeps 20% and a third 10%, and a copy of an article republished on many sites keeps 5%. The full model, with worked examples and how it was tested, is on bklink's methodology page.

What it is not

Not a Domain Rating. Domain Rating is Ahrefs' 0–100 score of a site's backlinks and is one input here. The BV score is a dollar value.
Not a guarantee about your link. A link in a footer, a nofollow link or a syndicated copy on the same site is worth a fraction of the figure — the table above shows how much.
Not a price. It says what a link is worth, not what a publication will charge for one.
